The new StringKing Metal 2 lacrosse shafts are designed to deliver the same best selling performance as the original models, but the guys at StringKing have specifically engineered a few new shaft weights which are specific to ages and style of play. Without getting too confusing... the chart on the left will show you the different prices and weights of their new line, as well as the recommended age groupings. We think that these for the age groups up to 14 years old, that the 125 and 135 gram shafts will be right on. The younger guys want the lightest weight possible, and the chances of them snapping a shaft is pretty small.
As players get bigger and stronger up into the JV and high school ranks, they really need to be in the 135, 145 and 155 gram shafts. Here it's really all a matter of preference. If you are a big strong aggressive shooter that simply wants the lightest weight possible, and does not mind running through a few shafts a season... then go light. If you want a more heavy duty rig because you are playing a bit of d-middie... go for the strength of the 155. Collegiate and advanced high school guys really need to be up in the 155 and 165 class shafts. These are still super-light, but built to take on more punishment.
StringKing made all of these new Metal 2 shafts with double tape technology. That simply means they took materials out of the low stress areas like the butt and moved it to the high stress areas like the top hand position on the shaft.
